The Big Band Messengers (Leipzig)

„The Big Band Messengers“ is a young Big Band in the music scene of Leipzig, which was founded in 2022 and is self-organised by students of the University of Music and Theatre „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig. With regular rehearsals and its own way of working, it focuses on creating its own timbre.

Beginning with pieces by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, the band has worked its way through the history of Big Band music. In a steady line-up, they play a colourful programme of self-selected pieces. In addition to titles by other Big Bands and well-known musicians such as Horace Silver, Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Pat Metheny and Ed Partyka, the programme also includes their own arrangements and compositions. The repertoire includes both strictly instrumental and vocal pieces.
