The “Klänge der Hoffnung” ensemble was formed in the fall of 2017 during a concert at the Grassi Museum in Leipzig as part of the “Intercultural Weeks”. The professionally trained musicians come from Syria, Iran, Italy, Poland and Germany. Their repertoire combines influences from Klezmer, Arabic and Persian melodies.
Their own compositions, which incorporate quarter tones from Arabic and Persian music cultures or Latin American rhythms, create surprising stylistic connections.
The audience values the authentic joy of playing together with the surprising stylistic connections that arise when musicians from different cultural backgrounds bring their traditions to the table and make music with each other. Previous highlights include performances with the Banda Internationale and the cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
The musical director of the orchestra is Ali Pirabi. He studied European music in Iran and loves Bach’s works. He had to flee for political reasons in 2013. In Leipzig he found a new home.
