Maria Kostraki Mosaico Mediterraneo (GR)

Songs from Southern Europe from the Renaissance to the Modern Era

Opening Concert – Mosaico Mediterraneo – Musical Traditions of the Mediterranean: From the Renaissance to Modern Times

Soprano Maria Kostraki performs on opera and concert stages throughout Germany and Southern Europe. Alongside her career as a classical singer, she has developed a deep passion for the folk music traditions of the Mediterranean. Inspired by this passion, she created Mosaico Mediterraneo, a unique project that builds musical bridges between cultures, eras, and sound worlds.

The ensemble brings together musical traditions from across the Mediterranean, linking historical repertoire with living folk traditions. Its repertoire ranges from Renaissance and Baroque songs to Romantic works of the nineteenth century and the vibrant folk traditions of Greece, Italy, Spain, and other parts of the Mediterranean.

Oriental melodies, African rhythms, Sephardic influences, and contemporary Greek song come together, reflecting centuries of cultural exchange across the region.

Audiences are invited on a journey through centuries of musical history, from courtly songs and early masterpieces to the vibrant traditions that continue to thrive today.
